European Academy of Sciences Fellow A.Stephen K.Hashmi was invited to our university for
academic lectures and exchanges
News Report(Correspondents: Zhang Dongsen, Kong Yanyan, Huang Yuanxin) On the morning of September 14th, European Academy of Sciences Fellow A.Stephen K.Hashmi was invited to our university to deliver an academic report at the 2026 High-end Forum on the First-Class Discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology. The report was chaired by Professor Gu Shuangxi, Vice Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy.
Professor Hashmi delivered a special academic report on the cutting-edge advances in homogeneous gold catalysis. He systematically introduced a series of representative achievements made by his research team over the long term in the development of gold-catalyzed reactions, investigation of reaction mechanisms, and efficient construction of complex molecular skeletons. Combined with the demands of industrial applications, he presented the practices and outcomes of the team’s collaborative research with enterprises in recent years. With specific cases, he demonstrated the elegant research philosophy of integrating fundamental research with industrial needs, and shared the scientific thinking and innovative concepts behind relevant research work.
The report reflected the forward-looking nature of fundamental research as well as the translational value of scientific research achievements for practical applications. After the lecture, Professor Hashmi answered questions raised by teachers and students on site patiently. He also had in-depth discussions with the audience on catalytic reaction mechanisms, research topic selection, industry-university-research cooperation and other topics, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere.
This exchange has further strengthened the academic ties between our university and world-renowned scholars. It offered a valuable opportunity for teachers and students to learn about cutting-edge advances in homogeneous gold catalysis, broaden their research horizons, and deepen international academic exchanges and cooperation.
This academic report was co-organized by the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy and the Center for International Exchange and Cooperation. Members of the leadership team of the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy, together with faculty and students from relevant schools, attended the academic event.
