Top of Form Professor Wei Yuechang from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) was Invited to Deliver Academic Lecture at Our University
News Release (Correspondents: Du Hongmiao, Gao Youzhi) On the morning of September 28, Professor Wei Yuechang from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) was invited to deliver an academic report for the 2026 High-End Forum on the First-Class Discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology. The report was presided over by Professor Xiong Qingang, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy.
Entitled “Development of High-Efficiency Photocatalysts for CO₂Reduction and Investigation of Their Reaction Mechanisms”, Professor Wei Yuechang gave a special lecture on artificial photosynthesis catalysis and photocatalytic CO₂ reduction. His research team improved photocatalytic performance by tuning the pore size of Ti-based oxides via the slow-light effect. The team designed PtRu bimetallic active sites to achieve directional regulation of CO₂ reduction products and clarified the critical role of hydrogen protons in methane selectivity. Meanwhile, low-coordination Mn single-atom catalysts were constructed to address the low efficiency of C–C coupling and effectively stabilize reaction intermediates. The report summarized multiple photocatalytic systems and offered new insights into the fabrication and mechanistic study of photocatalysts for CO₂ photoreduction.
After the lecture, Professor Wei Yuechang engaged in friendly discussions with faculty and students. Participants raised active questions related to the report. Enthusiastic discussions were focused on improving the cycling stability of photocatalysts, characterization and detection methods for oxidation-end reactions, identification of catalytic reaction intermediates, and optimization of C–C coupling efficiency. Professor Wei responded to each question carefully and shared experimental design ideas and research experience. The event featured a vibrant academic atmosphere. Through intellectual exchanges, attendees gained a clearer understanding of existing challenges and research trends in this field and reaped substantial rewards.
This academic forum was co-hosted by the Graduate School and the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy.Members of the leadership team of the school of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy, together with relevant faculty and students, attended the event. (Reviewers: Yang Haibo, Yu Xianglin)
